The Hidden Costs of Cheap Tuition

Grades, this word matters more than anything in today’s world. With job crisis looming around the world as automation threatens to takes away most of the jobs that we see now, the level of competition among students has touched the roof.

We are gradually moving towards a world where there would be little in terms of career scope for the students with average grades.

In the past students who didn’t excel in their academics would easily find employment in jobs that form the bottom of the pyramid.

But many of these jobs and roles are fast disappearing. The road to success in the future would rest of good grades and the opportunities that better academic performances open up for students.

We aren’t trying to paint a dreadful picture of the future but as a caring parent, you know about the kind of competition your child is facing at the moment.

In fact, it is incomparable to what kids a generation or two ago would have faced.

Admission into good universities or even entry into higher education depends on the kind of grades that the students achieve in their A Level or GCSE.

There is no shame in admitting the fact that school lessons are not enough. The brightest students can excel in any environment but the average ones definitely need a push.

We must give credit to the schools and the teachers but despite their hard work can’t clear the doubts or queries of all individual students due to the overwhelming teacher to student ratio in the classroom.

They often adopt a mean pace of teaching while teaching which may not be good enough for every student in the class.

This is where tutoring services have come in and filled the gap. Most students look at tuitions as the place where all their doubts and queries are resolved which they carry from their schools.

Since tuition classes have a favourable teacher to student ratio most students find it easy to ask questions as compared to a classroom in the school.

While normal school classrooms are all about teaching the lessons and completing the curriculum, private tutors focus how their students retain knowledge, overcome the fear with subjects such as Math and English and learn to express their thoughts while taking exams in an articulate way.

Choosing the Right Tutoring Services
If you are looking for tutoring servicesfor your child you’d know that it isn’t the easiestof things to do on this planet.  You will find all kinds of tutors ones who will run after you to get your kid admitted to those where you need to queue to find a place for your kid. You are likely to find someone living stone throw from your home. What if your next door tutor promises to offer lessons at the ‘cheapest’ rate? Should you fall for that bait? The question that we’d rather ask is – are you willing to take a risk with your child’s grades? Cheap tuitions aren’t cheap and they can cost you one of your biggest goals – your child’s career. You won’t like to take that risk, would you? Let’s take you through some of the hidden costs of cheap tuitions and why you should stay away from them -
Cheap tuitions come at a cost…
Have you ever stayed at a lavish hotel suite that came at the price of a budget hotel? Can you take a Rolls Royce on rent as the same price of an entry level sedan? Did any airline offer you a first class ticket at the price of economy? Quality always comes at a cost and good products and services are always sold for a premium price. The same logic applies to tutoring services as well and if you want to learn from the best tutors or looking one for your kids you should avoid falling into the ‘cheap’, affordable’ and ‘low cost’ trap. There are no good tutors who would offer services at throwaway prices.
The fact is like everyone else the best people in this trade like to earn handsomely. Tutors with proven track records of helping students achieve higher grades are likely to charge premium fees as compared to those tutors who don’t have a track record to boast about. While no tutor would be able to guarantee higher grades for your child it goes without saying that when they join the best tutoring services their odds of success grows exponentially. Their doubts would be cleared in a methodical way, they would be more confident with their approach to difficult concepts and all these result in higher grades.
Tutoring service is fragmented…
Tutoring has emerged as one of the most in-demand and competitive services. As students wish to excel and look beyond classroom lessons the demand for tutoring services has also grown. Like all other cases of demand and supply, when demand is on the higher side several professionals would want to try their hands at offering those services. This is exactly what has happened with KS3, GCSE and A Level Tuition. There are too many people who are passing themselves as experts these days. In a bid to attract students to their centres they often promise to offer tuition at extremely low fee.
The problem with this is the fact that your kids aren’t going to learn from the best tutors and perhaps people who wouldn’t stick to this profession for long if they find greener pastures elsewhere. Without much of teaching experience these tutors aren’t able to clear the doubts in the minds of the students in an organized manner. Your child would end up grasping difficult concepts in bits and pieces and won’t be able to use this knowledge to solve practical problems which is likely to affect their grades in the exam.
Your child doesn’t have the luxury of time…
When it comes to facing an exam time is surely the most limited resource that a child has. There are no more than 24 hours in a day or seven days in a week. Every day counts when your child is about to undertake an important exam in his or her life. When you choose cheap tuitions you put them at great risk in terms of this diminishing yet precious resource. In case your child isn’t comfortable with the lessons being taught by the tutor or you don’t see much of improvements in their preparation you don’t have the luxury of undoing the process. You’d have cost your child many weeks and months of strong preparations and this can be the differentiator between the expected grades and what they finally get in the exam.
Every child has unique needs…
One of the major problems with cheap tuitions is the fact that tutors tend to follow the same ‘cookie-cutter’ approach to teaching as like in schools. Your child has unique needs and they aren’t likely to be addressed when you take them to tutors who don’t gauge knowledge levels in their students. For instance your child may have problems in particular areas of subject. Until these doubts are cleared the child won’t fall in love with the subject. This is where seasoned tutors start by assessing the unique needs of their students. They’d spend more time with topics where the child faces challenges and not move into another area without clearing those doubts. The bottomline here is – if the unique doubts that your child has aren’t addressed in tuitions, is there any logical reason for you to send your child to tutoring services.
Tuition seats are precious…
One of the things that more parents tend to ignore while falling for ‘cheap’ or ‘affordable’ tuitions is the fact that there is no looking back for your child once you have got them admitted to one of those tuitions. As we have mentioned above you may need to stand in queue to get your child admitted in centres by the best tutors. In case the next-door tutor doesn’t meet your expectations and you think about change in tuitions midway through the academic session you aren’t likely to find seats with the best tutors in town. You end up in a difficult condition where you can only regret your decision and can’t do much about it.
As you can clearly see cheap tuitions can prove to be very expensive and limit the scope of your child’s academic career and also job prospects into the future. The savings you make would be negligible to the cost you and your child would pay for a lifetime. When it comes to choosing tutoring service for your child you can make no compromises. If the best tutors charge you on the higher side the returns in terms of grades and future opportunities shall also be higher. This is one area where you should always choose quality and results over bargain.
Summary: In this write-up we discuss some of the ills of cheap tuition and the hidden costs involved in them and look at why it is necessary to avoid them.
